Ever contemplated over your daily water intake? Apparently, a shocking statistic shows that about 90 per cent of people in the UK aren’t meeting the National Health Service’s recommended hydration benchmark of six to eight servings of fluids every day. Further still, there’s a 20 per cent chance you’re part of the crowd entirely skipping out on the essential H2O.
While the charm of tea, coffee, fizzy beverages, and juice often captivates most, they hardly stand as a replacement for water. It’s worth noting that teas and coffees act as diuretics, quickening urine production, whereas fizzy beverages and fruit juices are laden with sugars that not only damage teeth but can also lead to significant weight gain.
Maintaining a balanced diet inclusive of these drinks is acceptable, but they can’t take the place of plain water. Remember, our bodily constitution is around 70 per cent water, and our brains contain about 85 per cent – hence the importance of being well-hydrated with high-quality H2O throughout the day can’t be overstated.
If you’re among the vast majority who aren’t hydrating enough, it’s highly probable that you’re experiencing minor forms of dehydration. Dr Naomi Newman-Beinart solemnly states, ‘Incorporating a healthy habit of water intake should be a critical part of your day, especially in hotter weather.’

Headaches: Adequate water intake can combat mild headaches. Why put up with a throb when hydration could resolve it?Difficulty Concentrating: Dehydration could hinder your ability to focus on routine tasks. A swig of water can set things right.Low Energy and Mood: Even minimal dehydration can dampen your spirits. Keep a water bottle at arm’s length to remind yourself to hydrate routinely.Constipation: Water is a simple yet effective remedy for constipation. Supplement it with fibre-rich foods and ample exercise for faster relief.Strenuous Exercise: Losing as tiny as two per cent of your body water can induce fatigue and decrease motivation during and post workouts. Extra hydration is key here, primarily in hotter climes.
