The dancer, gearing up for her spectacular performance in a hotly-anticipated dance show available until March 25 – joins us to advocate for fitness and optimum lifestyles for women. No better individual exists to provide style, motivation, and fitness advice than this dynamic dance diva. Here’s her take…
Dancing: A lifetime passion or a cultivated discipline?
For her, dancing isn’t merely an activity—it’s a defining part of her existence. From a young age, dance has been at the heart of her life. Given her profession, maintaining her body in optimal condition—akin to a well-oiled machine—is crucial. Just as a car needs fuel, she needs to nourish her body rightly to pull off 11-hour dance rehearsals. Dance to her is not simply an art form, but a way of life that demands robust physical well-being and sensible nutrition.
Has the rainbow always lacked rain?
A full tilt journey of thirty years, ever on the move is far from easy. Her toughest moments occurred when an injured knee sidelined her. Faced with the prospect of losing her ability to dance, she dealt with a severe mental and physical struggle. The silver lining behind this impediment is it compelled her to take a break, recuperate, and return to dance in top form.
As age adds more candles on her cake, she has accepted bodily wear and tear as a natural progression. This acceptance has empowered her to sustain through life, with grace and determination.
Highlight reel
Among a plethora of memorable experiences, holding the title as the longest-serving professional dancer on a renowned dance show ranks high. She treasures the relationships made with various partners along the journey, from her first pairing with Westlife’s Nicky Byron to recent dancing ally Greg Wise. Beyond the stardom, her family and strong values instilled from her mother keep her grounded, driving her to strive for her best.
Dance hunger and filling: Nutritional habits
Squashing the widespread notion that dancers starve on lettuce, she champions wholesome eating. Requiring extra nutrition due to the demands of her profession, she prefers satiating her body with chicken, vegetables, protein bars, carbs, and an occasional doughnut or two. To maintain bone strength, she supplements her diet with key vitamins like turmeric and magnesium.
