by Gemma Delaney
World-renowned weightlifting and CrossFit maven, speaking out both on her journey to strength and encouraging women to honor their muscles. Our unstoppable force reveals, ‘My athletic wear line is designed to highlight the muscles women tirelessly hone.’
What’s the most undeniable charm of strength training?
‘I recognized the thrills of exercise only at 17, initially with a goal to shed some weight and attract a boyfriend. It was a revelation to witness my physical abilities evolving and shaping my body through a shift in movement, making me fall in awe with the path I chose,’ she confides.
The Ingenious Spark behind her Apparel Line
Our fitness dynamo sheds light on her nine months of collaboration with WIT Fitness, fashioning her very own workout clothes line. It focuses on celebrating strong women worldwide, through design nuances like low-rise pants, high-neck bras, and open-back tops. ‘The goal is to flaunt the muscles that hard work has sculpted.’
‘Decoding the definition of the female body, an idea sparked by Ronda Rousey in her career onset, is a significant trigger. She embodied being extremely fit and simultaneously feminine. This contradicting societal norms enabling us not to shy away from our muscles made me realize my ingrained embarrassment for my muscles, which symbolize my body’s extraordinary capabilities,’ she admits.
Does she still experience muscle embarrassment?
‘Certainly not! Despite the challenges and adverse comments on my physique throughout the years, finding CrossFit endowed me to discover my genuine passion. My muscles’ growth didn’t concern me, as they were assisting me in achieving phenomenal physical aspects, including Olympic weightlifting.’
Unlocking the Secret to her Positive Mindset
Our body-positive heroine credits her father’s unwavering positivity. ‘He believes in addressing problems rather than nurturing negativity or seeking faults. This mindset, coupled with my training, has given me the courage not to fear failure, disappointing others, or exploring new grounds.’
So, what’s next on her horizon?
‘Presently, I’m battling an ACL tear and preparing for an imminent surgery, so staging a grand comeback is my future. I aspire to participate again in the CrossFit Games and, in the meantime, continue building my apparel line and challenging women’s stereotypes.
‘I wish to inspire everyone, especially girls, to think “if she can do it, why can’t I?”. The strength and the capabilities my body possesses should be envied. In the end, my goal is to redefine the standards of attractiveness, enabling everyone to discover their unique beauty.’
