Welcome autumn with enthusiasm and gusto; fall may not bring the alluring radiant summer rays, but it is an equally magical time to delight in the generosity of Mother Nature. This sentiment is shared strongly by our very own celebrated author and parenting guru as she spills the beans on her love for the great outdoors, especially during autumn.
When away from her professional commitments like recording her enlightening and resourceful parenting podcast or conducting the pre-natal program she co-founded, this nature aficionado loves engaging in walks, runs, and horse-riding across the countryside. The view from her woodland sauna espouses the perfect meeting point of luxury and wilderness, where one can watch wildlife in their natural habitat.
Together with her adventurer spouse, their haven lies in the rustic countryside, amidst their children, adored dogs, and three horses. Their love for nature transcends into their professional life as well, eminent in their collaboration with a renowned outdoor clothing brand to bring forth their fourth collection of outdoor wear. We sit down with our beloved writer to understand the inspiration for the designs and her tips for living an active outdoor life.
Her bond with the British countryside dates back to her childhood when every moment outdoors was treasured. She recalls delightful memories of creating camps, roasting apples, and relishing adventures with her ponies.
Fast forward to the present day, she finds her and her spouse’s happiness peaked when outdoors. Their children share the same love for the countryside, and she finds it heartening to impart to them the glory of the different shades of green landscapes. She asserts the importance of embracing banked rain-soaked memories during their walks.
In terms of workout, she prefers a good stretch in the open field over a gym any day. She loves the organic exhaustion that follows an active day out, complemented by riding and running as her preferred exercise forms. Fitness also bridges to her mental health, with running sessions providing a perfect solitude space to churn out creative ideas.
Although her and her spouse’s fitness regimes vary, the couple cherishes playing tennis and going on walks together. However, when it comes to personal routines, they prefer their individual spaces.
Coming to relaxation, they have a wood-fired sauna in their woods where they relax and observe the fauna, interspersed by dips in their cold wooden plunge pool. The sauna sessions are known to provide good night’s sleep and are excellent to soothe any body aches.
A glowing epitome of health, her secret lies in her love for outdoor activities, rather than seeking artificial treatments. With 44 years on the calendar, she still finds herself agile and active enough to keep up with her children, prizing her investment in good eating habits and exercise.
The real secret to embracing autumn outdoors, she says, lies in good outdoor clothing, which eases exploring the outdoors, unfettered by seasonal changes. Their clothing line embodies the practicality and comfort of outdoor living.
Her ideal outdoor kit includes a good waxed jacket, a comfortable pair of wellies, and a stylish yet practical hat. Blending fashion with outdoor ruggedness, she appreciates the longevity of good outdoor pieces, like her father’s Barbour jacket that she holds dear.
In a quick tête-à-tête, she reveals preferences for outdoor exercise over the gym, mountains over beach due to her Austrian roots, quinoa as a quick healthful snack popping right out of the microwave, bars over spas, and lastly, wellies over heels stating her unending love for outdoor life.
Now that you have the secret sauce to amicable outdoor living, it is time to step out and welcome the transition of green leaves to myriad hues of gold, rust, and red. After all, there is no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.
