A woman who is no stranger to our homes, Evelyn Ames, has been on our screens for over three decades. At 55, she’s not just a beloved presence on TV, but a vigorous advocate for fitness and wellness. The proud mom of three chats with me about her love for exercise, tips for a healthier lifestyle, building upon one’s confidence, and relishing life in her golden years.

Igniting Positivity and Confidence in Midlife

“Self-esteem and confidence are two different things. Confidence can grow with age and wisdom – I feel significantly more self-assured now than I did in my twenties, thirties, and forties. Loving myself, imperfections and all, has been a transformative experience,” shares Evelyn.

She stresses the importance of self-improvement and curating a sense of self-worth, irrespective of others’ opinions.

Self-Acceptance and Body Positivity

Evelyn underlines the crucial mindset transformation required to embrace our bodies. Combining her exercise regimen and strength training has made her feel amazing, regardless of the natural signs of aging. “Feeling strong and beautiful and accepting my imperfections has become part of my identity,” she adds.

Acknowledging the mindset shift that comes with maturity, Evelyn commends those influencers daring to expose their imperfections and vulnerabilities, thus inspiring others to embrace their unique bodies.

Ageing Gracefully

Evelyn reflects fondly on the journey her body has sailed through, including three pregnancies. Her appreciation for her body increases with each passing day. She reiterates, “I would write a love letter to my body, thanking it for its enduring service and resilience.”

Finding Love in Fitness

Fitness is something she swears by. To women seeking to enhance their fitness objectives, Evelyn recommends incorporating strength training, especially for ladies in midlife, which she believes is beneficial for bones, heart, mental health, and much more. She also emphasizes consistency and the importance of a cooling down routine for both mind and body.

A Piece of Advice for the Younger Self

Looking back on a trailblazing career, she consoles her younger self with the simplest of assurances: ‘It’s all going to be OK.’
