Constantly adapting to life’s challenges is something our inspiring subject knows all too well. As an international-level oarswoman and supermom to three kids, her journey is enlightening for anyone seeking a harmonious existence amidst the chaos.
Navigating through Life’s rapids
Earlier in her career, life was entirely centered around her sporting achievements. However, the addition of familial responsibilities served as her wake-up call. It started her quest for equilibrium, a journey that was not just about peak physical performance, but also becoming the best mother and friend she could be. Surprisingly, this journey of introspection and change began with a wellness campaign she found herself involved with.
Steering toward an Equilibrium
Her post-Olympics commitments didn’t slow her down, with stamina-driven pursuits like triathlons and non-stop twenty-four-hour kayak challenges. However, the demands of parenthood decisively shifted her high-speed trajectory, encouraging her to listen to her mind and body’s cues.
Her current lifestyle doesn’t accommodate five-hour bike rides, leading her to explore shared activities that the entire family could enjoy.
Embracing Balance on a Paddleboard
An unexpected but delightful discovery she made is the serene sport of paddleboarding. With her children in tow and her husband managing the other paddleboard, she immerses herself in a serene environment. Allowing her to switch to a wellness-oriented mindset, it’s a literal and metaphorical balancing act.
For her, paddleboarding, beyond being a fitness exercise, is a meditative and calming activity. The rhythmic motion and the beauty of being in nature serve as reminders to appreciate her body’s capabilities truly.
Nourishment overhaul: From Calorie Count to Nutrient Dense
Nutrition has been a significant part of her transformation. During her active rowing days, she had to consume a staggering 4,000 to 6,000 calories daily. This approach often meant indulging in high-calorie treats to maintain her energy levels. Yet, a nutritional awakening came post the 2012 Olympics, leading her to reconsider her diet drastically.
Juggling breastfeeding twins and rigorous training sessions made her conscious of her body’s nutritional requirements as her children relied on her nourishment while she maintained a demanding workout regime. Ailing her was a stress fracture, also a result of low iron levels, alerting her to reconsider her nutritional choices.
As a part of a wholesome diet strategy, she now relies on a multivitamin supplement tailored for women, helping balance hormones, energize metabolism, and bolster the immune system. This supplement, along with an iron supplement, keeps her healthy and running smoothly in her busy and dynamic life.
She has teamed up with a wellness supplement brand and another influencer to launch a series that narrates her journey towards work-life balance.
